I heard on the radio this morning, and read in the Hill Times, about a Conservative plan to make transit expenses tax deductible.
This is a good policy as it helps to balance out the untaxed benefit of free parking offered by employers.
But my interest here is that the Conservatives sound like they're getting serious about trying to be competitive in the GTA. This is a notable improvement for a party that, even recently, was blowing Toronto off.
Now, the Liberal MP of my former riding, Carolyn Bennett has been a supporter of this issue. But supporting without results doesn't count for a whole lot. Jack Layton, as the one non-Liberal Toronto MP in a minority parliament, has done more for city issues than all the Liberal caucus members. Maybe one Conservative MP would be able to make a difference, too!
