There were some articles in the past week or so about the campaign finance reform proposals that were coming through at City Hall. I didn't write about it because I thought these would easily pass. I also wrote about this issue back in March.
Apparently I was wrong, and City Council has deferred the issue.
The driving force behind the proposals is my former councillor Michael Walker. David Miller also supported him, but the council voted 19-17 to delay by asking staff to prepare a report. I believe I read elsewhere that Miller was able to get this back on the agenda for September, which is just within the deadline for affecting the next election.
Needless to say, I think these are good reforms, and I hope they pass in the fall. In the meantime, I'll try to get a list of the 19 + the abstainers.
