Rumours have been flying for some time about when Paul Martin will call an election. Taking a look at the "poll" on MP Dennis Mills' website certainly seems to add some substance to the idea that Martin will drop the writ within a couple weeks for a mid June election.
Now, between now and May 9, we will find out how many Canadian hockey teams will make it to the Stanley Cup semi-finals. It is not improbable that by that date both Toronto and Calgary could still be playing. Montreal? Well, there's always a chance.
Can you imagine a Prime Minister beginning an election campaign under those circumstances? What if we have a Toronto-Calgary final?
Maybe they don't want anyone to pay attention, but I imagine it could easily backfire.
